Two projects for the World Government Building by Samuil Stoyanov – visual artist
These are two of three objects which I made 2009 – 2010, as a metaphoric, utopian projects for the future building of the World Government Office. This institution dose not exists yet, but I would like to “suggest” few directions, which can be useful in the future architectural researches and plans. Who knows maybe the development of the technology will provide possibilities for their real realization.
Project for the World Government Building. 843 Knots, 2009 (fail: project WGB 01.jpg)
The project for the world government building is a utopian architectural project for a not yet existing global institution. The work consists of 843 knots, each made of two different materials, for example: a straw and a cable or a cable and a golden thread…Some of the knots are made for one and the same material (narrow pipes or cable), but of different color, thickness or hardness. Thus the knots become an allegoric image of "ties" whith a little functional stability. Being entangled into each other, they make a construction which holds the object – a project for an erect and relatively stable building. The plenty of colors and materials makes the object look beautiful and attractive but at the same time chaotic and vulnerable.
Project for the World Government Building II, 2009 (fail: project WGB 02.jpg)
The world government is an institution which formally and legally doesn’t exist, yet recently it is so much talked about that some people even accept this architectural “model” or building project as completely realistic and utilitarian. The basic motive of those analyzing the necessity for creating a world government is the fact that the political processes fall behind the economic ones, i.e. the big business becomes more and more centralized, while the differences between the politics of the various countries cause problems concerning its functioning. The “Project for the World Government Building II” is constructed by placing ceramic stars one upon the other. Each floor is made of three stars. Of course, in the symbolism of the stars different meanings can be sought, but here the color of the stars (which are made from red clay) inevitably leads to them being treated as references to a definite political ideology.
