Unrealised projects ART FOR THE CITY, 2008

I'm sending you two photos of the unrealised projects created in 2008 on the theme »Art for the city«. The Society of Ljubljana's visual artists invited artists of Ljubljana to contribute ideas how to make our city more beautiful – and meaningful. It is evident that through all human history visual arts as sculpture and painting contributed with their visions a lot concerning beauty and meaning to all cities. The first photo shows my project for a mosaic on the large Ljubljana's modernistic building, which was in need for renovation. The building itself was inspired by Le Corbusier’s L'Unité d'habitation, so I've created a composition with vawing coloured forms with black lines, a kind of reminiscence to Le Corbusier's paintings. The second photo shows my project for a fresco on the wall of Slovenian National Theater. The composition is made of five medallions, each of them with a linear figurative image, representing (arche) typical theatre motifs of Kiss, Dream, King, Sorrow and Tragedy. Projects unfortunately were not realised in real space. Nowadays investitors in Slovenia unfortunately spare money to the detriment of paintings and sculptures – and to the detriment of beauty and meaning …

Author of project: Matej Metlikovič, artist-painter. More informations about me you can find on my website: www.matejmetlikovic.si I’m thankful for the help of Tomaž Mlinarič, architect, who realised my ideas as “photomontages” with a computer. In time of this cooperation he was still student of Architecture.
