The Experimental Art Action group present: Possible Areas of Joint Action A “Due to an electrical fault at the enlightenment gallery…” production
01/01/2013 - 01/01/2014
For the period of 1 year, beginning at midnight on the 01/01/2013 and ending at midnight on the 01/01/2014, two artists will be asked not make or exhibit a single work of art. Instead for the duration of the exhibition Possible Areas of Joint Action they have been asked to articulate their practice in the form of a Mayoral campaign, running for Mayor of the borough within which they live. The result is a shifting of their practice from a socially engaged form of art making to a direct form of social engagement and politics proper. Following in the footsteps of Rusel Pussamp, (Rosenthal), the artists will explore the possibilities of applying artistic thinking and practice to actual governance. For the duration of this period the curator will act as their campaign manager. If successful the exhibition will materialize in there action whilst in power. If unsuccessful an archive of campaign material, media footage and any other record of their mayoral pursuit will be presented alongside a discursive programme looking at the crossovers between art and social realities.
