wind chamber
This project consists of designing an “architectural sculpture” of an active capsule intended for temporary public interventions, pragmatic and strictly related to the development of the action and participation in the public sphere. The attempt to create this work consists in the resignation towards the "indifference" that offers us the quotidian, creating a common environment propitious to communicative relations. The full accomplishment of this "performance" is achieved collectively through the habitability of the "capsule" or cockpit and depends only on the acceptance of its premises and allegorical function. The concept of this public art project is based on the experience of community and that is metaphorically through air circulation. All will occur due to the location of the “wind chamber” to viewers and users to play an active/passive role at the time of use (ocupation).
The capsule is designed to acommodate two people seated frontally in separate seats. The reclined and comfortable status will allow to enjoy the feeling of air invasion through their movement. This “materia” is extracted towards the interior, drawing a constant flow of dust particles verified through an interior lightening system (black light). This loop of entry and simultaneous exit of air shape the cyclical system of the event. The "architectural" environment is suspended by cables from the roof of a building and remain substantially floating about fifty centimeters off the ground. Two appendices coming out of the cabine make contact with the building through wheels which will cause noticeable oscillations in the interior of the chamber. The location of this capsule will be able to be executed from any of the fronts of a building, taking advantage of the citizen in the street flow or lack, in alternative, “wind chamber” can be suspendend in the backs. In this case, the exterior environment will have to be appellative for public participation and that is posible by a light sistem attached on the back side of the buildings.
All process is visualized from the rooftop of the building and will also be controlled (activation and monitoring), the operations of activation of the extractor fans and monitoring the event by video. This leads to respect safety regulations provided to its users. The access to the chamber is performed through a front opening door made up through a pneumatic mechanism emphasizing the idea of entering another space as if this were a "time machine" or a dimensional environment. The main concept of this public art work emphasizes on the ideal conditions effective dialogue, intended as a metaphor for urban turbulence. The confusion among people who face communication, the air around them is the same shared in daily and biological situations in this context that makes them accomplices.
