    Glacial Risk Management Institute (GRMI): Angela Ellsworth and Leigh McCarthy Title: We Might Be Snowmakers In order to slow or reverse the retreat of glaciers, the GRMI proposes setting up large-scale snow blowers to increase the size of Europe’s largest glacier. The study will occur at the mighty Vatnajökull Ice Cap in southern Iceland where the Breidamerkurjökull glacier has been breaking apart and is at risk of completely sliding into the north Atlantic. For one month, 1000 artists from around the globe will rotate in groups of 10 to operate largescale snowmaking machines that are suspended above the glacier. We will also coordinate with researchers who measure on mass balance and ice velocity on several locations on the glacier. Furthermore, we will also get input from the automatic camera system monitors at the calving edge of the glacier in Jökulsarlon. The team of artists will take this information into account as they maximize their snow production by monitoring the air and water pressure of the machines and keep an eye on the automated flow control that is necessary to produce a smooth snowmaking curve that will not only enhance the existing condition of the glacier but create a visually engaging synchronized performance for audiences to enjoy. www.glacialriskmanagementinstitute.com
