Project: CHINATOWN RUN Client: City of Calgary Development Dept. / Canada Date: 2010

Retrofit of elements into existing Centre Street Chinatown District of Calgary Alberta Canada.

The idea was to enhance the 3 blocks along Centre Street with temple-like light standards and a digital image bank along the third storey level of 1930’s storefronts. The images would be changeable; going from skylines of other Chinese cities as an extension of identities amongst Chinese communities and art integrated spots from my views on Chinese influence in North American culture. The streetscape was supposed to be bathed in light reminiscent of the Chinatown streets I love to visit in other cities.

Unrealized: Outgoing Mayor’s initiative and controversy and debate in Calgary regarding light illuminated billboards citywide. Project filed, shelved, collecting dust.
