My unrealized project would be entitled “Cut” the piece would be a single channel video installation of every censored piece of cinematic footage since the inception of the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification). The work would play chronologically portraying every clip since the BBFC’s inauguration in 1912 through to the modern day, so it will begin with mild violence, swear words, drug use and sexual references and proceed onto graphic depictions of sex, violence and stronger language and drug use. It will be a historical and sociological depiction of what has been deemed indecent and immoral throughout the ages. Due to progression of inappropriate material the work would have its own watershed, the piece would play into an evening and include warnings outside the screening area of periods whereby people of certain ages could and could not enter.
