In “Flags,” I would use color and geometry to deconstruct and then reassemble, in multiple permutations, the world’s national flags. I would employ multiple media (paper, fabric, encaustic, photography, video, . . . ) to emphasize the “variety” among people and the nations they form or fall into. Each new flag would be accompanied by an alphabetical list of all the nations whose flags currently contain one or more of those colors. I would create a space where visitors make their own “flags” using colored paper scissors, and paste. A gallery wall (virtual or actual) would be available for posting the flags.

In an age of great diversity, there is a need for common ground. Color and geometry are powerful yet neutral unifying forces.
