Water: -As historical structure for migration, agriculture, and conflict -As political catalyst -Defining geography, location, and place or point of reference -As a poetic source for all kinds of inspiration -Mutable, shape-shifting substance that calms us, destroys us, and upon which our survival depends -Marking the passage of time -As pure material, even in the form of ice and vapor

Image Description: Glint, A Site Specific Installation

Scaled to fit one room, Glint entirely fills the space, leaving room at the margins for the viewer to circulate around three sides.

Glint amplifies the moment just before the eyes close against strong sunlight reflecting off the surface of water… that brief second when we’re blinded by the intensity of mirrored light. Our reaction is purely reflexive. Temporary experience is slowed down. A common and subtle incident shifts from invisibility into memory.

In contrast to reality, this installation occurs by manipulating an enclosed and darkened room…directly opposing the simplicity of the original event.

Part Disco Ball, part 3D photograph, this installation uses simple materials in a new way. Clear film makes the sling support that catches cut and shredded mirrored film. Highly reflective, the perfectly mirrored film will reflect pieces of everything in the room. The supporting sling structure is adaptable to the site’s specific dimensions.

Glint is both thoughtful and amusing, created by using industrial film and light alone.

The installation model as shown has been made from a shoebox.
