Underwater Forest Suspended sculpture for Palmetto Bay Village Hall, Florida

Underwater Forest is a large sculptural installation suspended from a 30’ ceiling, measuring 18’ in diameter. Its formal language derived from amorphous maritime life. Through its suspension and rich detail it conveys the weightlessness of underwater live, and the unsettling experience of approaching a large life form from beneath. Handpainted acrylic glass panels are hung in irregualr circles around the center of the sculpture. All parts are in balance, mimicking the fragile equilibrium of maritime ecosystems. The sculpture can be dramatically lit with LED lighting. It is also a reflection on the South Florida community, build on precious land right adjecant to the Atlantic. The abundance of water is its lure, and a posing threat at the same time.

The sculpture, as shown on the photo, was assembled once at the artist’s studio. Due to conflicts with the existing sprinkler system (according to the client), the sculpture was not installed, but instead has been stored in it’s single parts in a warehouse.
