This is a project to make a house shape out of chain link fence material, razor wire, fluorescent lights and plants. It was intended as a comment on Guantanamo Prison and the promise of American society.

Dear Mr. Littman,
We would like to propose a sculptural installation piece for P.S. 1 entitled ‘CLINK (Fool’s Paradise)’. The original purpose of this concept was to explore the politics and ideology of incarceration in response to the moral and legal lapses occurring at the Guantanamo Bay Prison Complex in Cuba. However, the project is more than a comment on post-September 11 politics. It is also an open-ended contemplation of the tension between the sprawling built world and the challenged natural environment.
Can manufactured structures and nature coexist peacefully? Or will they ultimately overtake each other? What kind of environment has society created for living within our urban plan, homes, ammenities? Are we, in some sense, living in a structured jail of our own design?
We would like to have this in an area either outside your building, an offsite location, or inside the gallery itself. We are specifically interested in building the greenhouse at an urban location where it can grow naturally over a period of time. The apperance, lighting and presence of such a structure would make a poetic, thought-provoking image for the public.
Enclosed (below) are further descriptions and blueprints for the structure. We would be more than happy to provide any other materials you need to further illustrate this project.
Sincerely,
Doug Fogelson & Dennis Callahan
