    Name of the project: EXIT

    participatory and research art project

EXIT is a series of interventions in open, public space that can be anywhere except the space of organized walking (main streets, boulevards, city squares etc). The project takes the concepts of the Situationist International, especially the derive concept of walking according to the psycho-geography of the public space. The main thing that is supposed to happen is relation between the public and the space where the interventions occur. The interventions should trigger or provoke people to explore public space in a different way: through derive walks, through taking paths other than the visible ones, through exploring areas they have never been to. This projects responds and relates to the specific locations, because it takes the notion of exit and everything that exit may represent (in this case exit from the organized, everyday walking) and because it is very universal by nature and can be applied in different contexts. The project itself is an extension of recent ideas for interventions in public space and relates to my interests for art in social context and relational art.

The project is realized in two phases. The first phase is placing standard EXIT signs in different areas as an intervention in open space. The signs themselves should not be anything spectacular, but clear and easy to be seen. The second phase or aspect of the project is the walks that should be implied by this signs, and which should be realized by the public, without any previous organizing or planning. The walks should be carried as one feels or thinks, and without the idea to arrive somewhere planned. The signs should be installed randomly, without precision or accuracy to any geographical spot. The length of this project is unlimited and can carry on as long as the signs stay in place. The project has never been realized so far, but is planned for several local locations, from where I come from and is supposed to be initiated. The only specialized needs that should be taken in account are the production of the EXIT signs and installation process.
