Instructions to finding a future Previously known as “Contemporary stream of consciousness: Stored data of identity as a work in progress” this project is an ongoing investigation into my individual identity as it relates to collective identity. Culled from the internet, a stream of consciousness recorded in time via a collection of images is stored on my computer drives. The information is stored in categories and by dates and consists of selected favorites representing areas of importance, my documented ideas, writings and poetry, photos of self and others, digital work, paintings, drawings, and images displaying politics and current events. The appearance of the small thumbnails is like a time capsule that triggers memory and reflection. This process of information gathering and collecting has permitted a critical review into who I have been and who I am becoming. Based on this accumulated research into my stored data I created a follow up project ”Instructions to finding a future.“ It encourages a social networking ritual based on our access and addiction to technology. The project revolves around sound, sight and online interaction. The instructions ask the participant to be involved within a given time frame of a week with radio, television, internet and social networks and carry the process into the community in face to face meeting. The instructions lead the participant from isolated passive self-exploration via technology to creating a happening thus opening the door to future possibilities.
