In my proposal for a residence in Dublin, 2008, I formulated an interactive idea for a cooperation with other artists. I was selected to come over, but in that period I couldn’t go (being a single mother...). Ever since I dream about this proposal, but never found the right place to realize it. The concept of the cooperation “ Inspired by board games, I would invite artists working in different mediums, of different backgrounds and ages, from nearby and international. I‘ll start by explaining the ‘game’: the rules and the purpose. The winner is the artist who realises a move, is happy with this cooperation, gets a step further in his/her artistic journey, ... (so I hope all participating artists are winners) First step: I invite them to look at a work I bring with me to the residence. We discuss the work, its meaning and connecting factors. See picture below This part of the game can take place in my studio at the residence or via internet (skype, mail etc) Next step: First ‘move’. An artist brings in a work (by preference a new work, but an existing work is also fine) in order to go into discussion with my work. We talk about his/her move. All participating artists will be posted about the progress of the game. Then a next artist reacts on that ‘composition’, we discuss this ‘move’. So on till all participating artists did a move. At the end of the ‘game’ I will put a new work of mine in answer to the last move. The discussions will be written out or taped. At the end of the residence period the results will be shown as a board game composition or as a board game performance. “ Marjan
