Noa Nahari Name: Lure Year: 2013/4 Neo Marxism claims the media are a tool to handle capitalistic power that wishes to exploit the working class to earn more money. For example, communication channels will produce programs that specifically attract a large audience (cultural rating) - mass culture - in order to increase profits. The owners of communication channels are involved in industrial business, tourism and services. That is why their interest is in preserving political stability and status quo and therefore they provide basic needs and desires (bread and entertainment) - thereby distract the masses and manage to control by a regime of exploitation and oppression. The ideas of the ruling class shape the meanings and have the possibility to produce spiritual and economic means - even intellectuals are depending on its economy, so the spiritual ideas depended on the period and on the production or exchange of the ruling class. My interest is what the role of the media and communication is in reality - and what is the rule of human in society. Does the mass culture really serve the ruling class and interest? Is the role of communication to promote open ideas and information or inject messages to a passive audience? I'm interested in creating a new form that allows a community of individuals to have a free choice that serves their personal ideology and offers them the opportunity to design Internal shape. To allow a selection of consciously-chosen options and not the ones proposed to us as distorted or degenerated. To gather and create a new reality, not to shape it based on joining the mob or the shimmering glow of controlled broadcast. Such creation that lead to a process, rather than to contemporary industrial product issues imposed, lack of courage and seductive beauty and feeding us with lies without depth or truth. To form our own selves every day. A Potential to produce and remake the building blocks of contemporary reality and the door of perception and hegemony of imagination. To create self-awareness and personality, so that we will be able to connect the components that are beyond our ego and self-awareness. The rating market left us dispossessed of everything and proceeds supporting suppression and becoming a partner of misery. Art and creativity have the ability to raise and stand against this tide by digging and sewing the economy, culture and science. In this art work my interest is to bring to awareness that there is freedom of choice and a real option rather than joining the current flow. That there is choice and participation out of a desire to understand and select information; not the one which is offered to us by the various networks to entertain us and amuse us. Those who choose to participate in the work by seeing their friends and do not want to be left behind maybe be surprised. Because they will find out that the ones who are supposed to lead us are not always right or do not always look after us carefully. They do not always do what is imposed on them and they use us to fulfill their dreams and desire …so perhaps we can fulfill our dreams by not participating in their experiment but choose a real option and not be forced and glitter. I would suggest an installation that reminds us of how we are caught in the nets of the network temptation and giving others the ability to feed us with “bread and amusement”, so that they will enjoy our best splendor instead of us enjoying it. I would like people to realize that it is much more important to fish and be a fisherman rather than being a fish because we are fish in a sea of free information and communication that allows the ruling class to keep our existence by giving us the things we supposedly need.
