Apocalypse Wave

On 12 January 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck, Haiti and its capital, Port-au-Prince. The devastation was horrible, an estimated three million people were affected by the quake, the Haitian government reported that an estimated 316,000 people had died, 300,000 had been injured and 1,000,000 made homeless. Nearly two weeks later it was reported that the beach of the small fishing town of Petit Paradis was hit by a localised tsunami wave shortly after the earthquake. At least three people were swept out to sea by the wave and were reported dead. Witnesses told reporters that the sea first retreated and a "very big wave" followed rapidly, crashing ashore and sweeping boats and debris into the ocean. This commonly known information, actually taken from Wikipedia, leads us to some point we would like to outline. Every generation lives waiting for its end – mass catastrophe that would wipe the living off the Earth. And right now we are waiting 2012 to come and even more, we want it to come. Our great expectations are being confirmed all the time, as cataclasms happen everywhere from USA and Europe to Russia and Japan. With our project for the Ghetto Biennale we wish to say out loud that we aren't afraid of the End. Whatever happens, happens and there's hardly anything we can do about it, as human actions have little impact on Earth, and harmful results of our actions are hyperbolized by faschist humanitarian rhetorics that place man in the center of the Universe, which he is not. Humankind is simply another element in Earth's cosmic cycle, we are about to accept this fact. The only thing we can do is be brave and face the End hapilly, be strong and not be brought down with all the pain and suffering. The idea is to build a giant tsunami wave coming out of the ocean. Perfect location would be Port international de Port-au-Prince, or any beach in the city limits. In front of it a chair-like will be placed with pieces of clothing on it, like a man left it before going to swim. Massive wooden carcass structure in form of a wave will be built and then filled with all the scraps and trash left of the 2010 eathquake. Natives will be forced to bring any trash they find usefull, and everything they bring will be documented with two photographs – one of the person and the other of the object he brought. All of the process of ecting the wave will be video-taped.
