"Leaching The Grease Out Of A Cheese Pyramid"

    1991-2012

The project (1991) consisted of ten pounds of white cheddar cheese carved into the shape of a stepped pyramid. The pyramid was placed on a 30 inch stack of newspapers bound together with braided steel cable. The newspaper absorbed the fat. The work sat in my studio for four years emitting the subtle scent of dirty socks. The ensuing grease flow was caustic enough to eat through the steel cable. Took a few years. The surface of the pyramid cracked separating into chunks as the cheese gave up it's goodies. The pyramid spent years loosely wrapped in plastic, stored in a cardboard box. The pyramid finely succumbed in 2012 when I accidently left it on my patio during a rain storm turning it into gray/brown muddy blob. My dog was interested.
