Project Concept – (Summary/Description )

Create a postcard in an edition of 8875 (representing the population of Attnang-Puchheim). The postcards will be available to Festival attendees, at no cost. Festival attendees will be invited to take a postcard and encouraged to mail it to themselves. The mailing of the postcard to oneself will represent the following. -For Residents of Attnang-Puchhiem mailing a postcard from the Festival to themselves will be a reminder that the train station is their link to the world and all that is beyond where they currently are. -For Non-Residents of Attnang-Puchhiem mailing a postcard from the Festival to themselves will be evidence of their willingness to travel to some place that conventional thinking would not expect them to travel. -For both residents and non-residents alike the card will also be a symbol of the role of art/culture and travel to connect one to the world beyond ones comfort zone. -Postcard Image: The image on the postcard will represent some aspect of the train station at Attnang-Puchheim. The image will not be a traditional postcard image but it will be recognizable as representing an aspect of the train station. The image to be used will be from images taken by the artist who will visit the station for the purpose of photographing the station for this project. -Edition: The postcard will be produced in an edition of 8875 representing the population of Attnang-Puchheim, this number can be adjusted to use the most current population numbers at the time of printing the card. The edition will be made available to the public at no cost. A small of signed artist proofs of the card, not to exceed 52, will be created in addition to the 8875. -The postcards will be placed on a Post Office table or a table similar to those used in post offices where people stand to write out forms, and stamp envelops etc. On the table will be three acrylic boxes made to hold the postcards but allow the public to easily remove a card. There will also be attached pens so the public can address the postcards at the table. Next to the table there should be a mailbox so the public can immediately mail their card. Either type of mailbox will be suitable, the smaller yellow mounted box is preferred but a larger blue self-supporting box is acceptable. Ideally the postcards will be available with postage so cards can be immediately mailed. If the cards are not made available with postage some way of making postage easily available would be desirable.
