Curating Un-realized. 9+1 Un-Realized Projects Revisited. Elpida Karaba, independent curator, theorist, Athens, Greece.

In 2005 I have organized and published the curatorial/publication project, Curating Issues, 9+1 Un-Realized Projects. The project invited nine greek curators, (artists, architects, theorists working as curators) to present/exhibit in a publication platform conceived projects (9, +1 was the platform itself), proposals, theories and strategies concerning their (curatorial) practice. The publication has been part of an on-going research dedicated to ‘small gestures’ investigating the possibility to work with limited (financial, infrastructural, institutional) means, aiming to activate the potentia of articulatory praxis, amongst different working groups, professionals, disciplines. In a meta-reading, at the same time the very limits of the project itself and the (un)realized projects presented, talked about the impossibility of articulation of dislocated subjects within the art field and beyond. The impossibility underlines, in its productive negativity, the necessity of the determination to unite, in order to be part of the very same art of govermentality, in order to create the conditions of discourse under which certain concepts will emerge, in order to practice and challenge the capacity for iteration across contexts, the need to produce the conditions for an ‘affirmative reinscription’. CuratingRevisited is the sequel of this research project aiming to permeate within this (im)possibility in a manner of a ‘confirmative deconstruction’. The curators that have worked in the initial project along invited artists will be summoned to readdress the 9+1 Un-Realized Projects and try to connect them to ‘present questions’, to today’s working, financial, dispersion (and as opposed coalition) conditions within the arts and across.
