Reproductions, apart from being a substitute for a genuine experience, may protect the vulnerable original for all too impudent eyes and inappropriate curiosity. In "Re-production" this idea is taken literally; the slide projector projects a photographic reproduction of the painting "Gur/Entre Lys et Défense" (David Groot, 1983, oil, 103 x 79 cm) on its original. The projection distance was arranged in such a way that the projected image became congruent to the actual image. Not only is the painting being protected from our gaze by it's reproduction; also the slide projector seems to register and reproduce the image in the same moment. The original and the reproduction become inseparable: the illusion only being broken when we appoach the painting, disturbing the projectors' beam.
