SIN TITULO Nails, wall, dust and red thread. Dimensions variable 2010
This is a project that perhaps was never intended to be realized. It was rather an action and a documentation of it. The beginning and the end is the wall, as it works as a statement for the hung or unhung pictures, paintings, mirrors. It is the need to have this white canvas where anyone can participate.
I returned to my home country, Mexico, after 3 years. The house is full of my old paintings I made when I was little, and the feeling of watching how my work has changed throughout the years made me take those paintings down and take the nails that have been holding them for all that time.
The nails then become the new work, the evidence of time alongside the marks on the wall which has been stained with the silence and loneliness from those who lived or not lived there.
I went around the whole house taking each nail out of the walls and replacing them with new ones. Nobody realized or noticed that the paintings have changed and they are perhaps not the same anymore.
