ANF (Absolutely No Fucking) is an evolving story written collaboratively by Alexandra Lawson and Stephen Spurrier, describing a year in the life of Spurrier (in the 60's) which explores the concept of intimacy as a phenomenon.
ANF (Absolutely No Fucking) ANF was initiated while drinking tea and beer in the garden in 2008. I was 20, and Stephen (some years older), a dear friend, started relaying stories of his life when he was the same age. After many stories, ANF emerged. This was the story of Stephen, at 20, living in Melbourne (Australia) over one year. During this time, Stephen shared a house with two incredibly beautiful law students who had a stringent legal document which outlined a set of house rules, this document was called ANF (Absolutely No Fucking) and was to be signed by all members of the household. Stephen and I worked steadily, meeting often to chat and write the ANF story for roughly a year, compiling 50 pages which describe the concept of intimacy as a phenomenon. It is often thought that intimacy relates directly to sex, however as the story of Stephen’s life within the ANF experience unfolds, it becomes evident that being intimate with a woman does not necessarily have to include having sexual intercourse, ANF describes how precious simple intimacy can be. Today ANF remains an enjoyable but incomplete project, the virtue of the ANF story is that it does not necessarily need to be finished – but instead develops organically, as our lives evolve.
