Rat Gallery I would like to propose an art show specially designed for wild city rats. The Rat Gallery is installed under the floor of an appropriate space in a big city . For the opening party of the show , the rats get to enjoy con temporary art and the same drinks and appetizers as the human visitors. Meanwhile, audiences can view the activity of rats via CCTV:s installed inside the rat gallery capturing movement of rats in real time. The project and the artworks will also be presented in a catalogue for the human visitors. The size of the Rat Gallery would be two levels approximately 2 and 5x1 5x0,5 m. The Rat Gallery will hav e whitewashed showrooms, polished concrete floors, black -boxes and more. The Rat Gallery is ingeniously designed so that one can lift out sections to access it. Inside the Rat Gallery, a group show of artworks directed specifically to wild city rats is inst alled. There will be special entrances that the rats can access directly from their environment. Six young prominent Swedish artists will be invited to produce unique works for the Rat Gallery, and themes such as human -animal and model -reality relationshi ps will be presented. The ethologist Nayna Andersson (Stockholm University) will be a special guest, providing insight and feedback on the project results. The proposal aims to produce a rewarding art show for the city rats. The proposal also aims to expe riment with spaces. The rats at their grand opening is a micro -cosmos of a human art gallery and also a real opening: heterotopia. Monitoring them displaying it as art inside a human art show would mean turning a heterotopia inside out.
