“Truth Highway” The Abstract Artist: Jiivanii RedMarks © 2007 Location: Jamaica “Truth Highway” is an Outdoor Sculpture represented by a transparent glass stairway, standing at about twenty-five meters off the ground or infinity. This escalator/stairway, to the heavens, which seemingly leads to no visible destination, point of arrival or departure, is the inspiration of a dreamscape. There is a door of exit/entry at the apex, which has no visible continuation, as evident by a man who, after signing a book, walked through the door into pitch darkness. The Sculpture should be an experience rather than be a mere object of art to be looked at. Concept The concept of “Truth Highway” is the inspiration of a dreamscape experienced several years ago; where I saw a stairway extending from the earth into the heavens; from the lower end of the stairway to the apex, effortlessly glides a man. At the topmost of the stairway he stops and writes in a book laying on a desk, after which, he departs or enters through a door that led into total darkness, with tiny stars being the only glimpse of light. There is no one explanation for such a metaphysical experience, however I have chosen to express this vision in a tangible physical way, in order to purport the idea that art can be transcendental; whether on physical, Spiritual, Mental or Psychic plane. The “Man” as shown in the digital drawings, represents the viewer, whose responsibility it is, to complete the sculpture; by ascending the stairway and signing his or her name, as evidence of the their courage, achievement and participation. The elevation of the stairway is 25 to infinity meters; the height of each step is 30.48cm, with a width of 304.8cm and a depth of 76.2cm, and steps numbering from 50 to 100+ and all constructed from glass reinforced with stainless steel. The width of the steps allows for two-way human traffic, whilst the depth allows for rest if one should become tired. The journey however should be a continuous and effortless one. The sculpture should be a nocturnal experience in order to be loyal to the vision, however daytime trips are welcomed. I strongly believe that this sculpture will affect the human consciousness in a very profound way, if, one dares to ascend “Truth Highway” and put one foot forward for the advancement of one’s own spiritual and mental achievement. The fact that the door ends at no obvious conclusion, tells me, that what we ascent to is within the quietness of the self, a place we are afraid to make contact with, to acknowledge that it does exist. As in the movie, “Contact”, when the spacecraft supposedly took off. For others outside the craft, it crashed; the sole occupant arrived at her destination, with mission accomplished, however her journey was not a physical one. The Door at the top right of the ladder, in my Interpretation, leads back to the inner self, where dwell all answers, for of self-discovery and renewal. Whilst the desk where one sign-in represents final Love and acknowledgement of the high self, a journey complete, now, here is the “I Am”.

MATERIALS: Glass, Stainless Steel, Nuts and Bolts. Steel MACHINERY: To drill deep into the ground. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE: Structural engineer Draftsman/Architect BUDGET ESTIMATION: With Glass and steel being relatively inexpensive I would give a rough estimate of US$185,000,00 based on minor internet research. SITE: Any location, where there is adequate land space to erect a permanent outdoors sculpture, and that would accommodate the flow of visitors. The land should be surrounded by golf course quality grass.
TIME FRAME: A conservative period would be three to four months, allowing that location and technical consultation is already sort.

REALIZATION REQUIREMENTS: Location is the most important requirement. Secondly, there is the need for a group of technical collaborators, in the area of structural stability and an architect/drafts person, a builder/contractor and surveyor.
