The 5-Minute Fellowship The 5-Minute Fellowship is a project in which artists will each receive $20 in exchange for a small work made in 5 minutes. I will arrive at the 5-Minute fellows’ studios with materials, a camera and $20, and leave with a small artwork. Visual artists work for free most of the time, even at advanced stages of their career. The 5-minute fellowship is an advocacy for creating a new financial model which puts artists first.

The Process: All artworks made by the 5-Minute Fellows (FMFs) will be gathered for an exhibition, in which the work will be up for silent auction. Prices will start at $40, and final sales will be split between the artist (50%), and the fellowship (50%), creating the funds for the next round of fellows. Also on display will be the documentation of the 5-Minute Fellowship process, including email correspondence, photos, audio and video interviews with the FMFs.

The Budget: Initial stage will include 25 artists x $20 5-Minute Fellowship = $500 Materials offered to FMFs (paper in 3 size options, ink, brushes, pens etc.) = $200

    Total: $700

The Global Positive Effect: The 5-Minute fellowship promotes a social-financial responsibility towards supporting artists in their endeavors, while creating profit from their work that is used to support more artists. It is simple proof that this kind of support is possible on the micro-community level while still making art profitable. The 5-Minute Fellowship is a happy meeting place for capitalism and socialism in today’s financially- challenged times. (Besides, every day is a recession for a working artist, and who wouldn’t want to get paid $20 for 5 minutes of work?)
