Proposal for Witches Memorial in Salem MA Giving voice to Witches
Each of the 17 sculptural element is a musical instrument. Compressed air is cycled randomly through the internal pipe in each element. Consequently the sound will project around the site creating aural dimensions to the site
The pipes have different diameters that result in difference pitches for the voices of the executed “Witches” The site was an empty lot. It will be blacktopped to insist on its rawness. In the center of the site will be a cast concrete denuded tree arising from a poll of water.
