“RE:BORN” is a futuristic art installation challenging our direction as a species, our choices in our lives, and our genetic choices for a future life and its ramifications. It is an opportunity to participate in a sci-fi art fantasy, perhaps soon to be a reality - to be reborn.
Attendees will be invited to enter a 20 foot canal containing various accouterments, art, sound art, and symbols signifying the birth journey. Those who choose to enter must first fill out forms deciding what genetic background, characteristics, etc. they would like or would like to discard in their next life. They will have been educated in their choices by literature and various video infomercials, contrived news reports, and imaginary testimonials placed around the gallery. Once the births are completed, the canal, where the culmination of this conceptual journey has taken place, will be installed as an art object; having an afterlife of its own.
Guardian angels (perhaps the artist) will advise and assist the attendees during the last gestation stage of their “birth” day. Some will play a board game entitled, “Roll the Dice, a game of chance; “a random method for choosing their genetic make-up. This event and the births will be displayed on the World Wide Web. The “RE:BORN” attendees will play out their new life through their avatar or web persona in a simulated life experience game on the internet.
Once the births are completed, the canal, where the culmination of this conceptual journey has taken place, will be installed as an art object; having an afterlife of its own.
Genetic engineering, cloning, and nature verses nurture, are experienced in a futuristic landscape that holds serious portent for the future of our world. RE:BORN coming soon – RE:BORN coming – RE:BORN come again.
