"Talking in strings" generative video installation. Time variable, 2011. "Talking in strings" develops into a cylindrical space around the audience that create the installation itself in real time by sending text messages via Twitter. Also the not present public on site can participate as well by sending messages by their remote Internet locations. The sentences run a recording system are displayed immediately – The texts speedily rotate around the space, changing direction, color, font, and some of them ramble in absence of gravity - The generated phrases, dissolving and wrapping themselves around disoriented people who are watching as texts become 'strings', no longer readable. These ‘strings’ slowly disappear as light’s bundles surrounding the body of the spectators like colored trails left by comets or as if we were inside of Newton’s disk. Ita. “Talking in strings” è una video installazione generativa ispirata al ‘Rotor’, famosa giostra rotante dei Luna Park. “Talking in strings” si sviluppa in uno spazio cilindrico tutt’intorno agli spettatori che realizzano l’installazione stessa in tempo reale mandando sms via Twitter. Può parteciparvi anche il pubblico non presente in loco, libero comunque di inviare messaggi da remote postazioni internet. Le frasi mettono in moto un sistema di registrazione per cui vengono immediatamente visualizzate - ruotano velocemente nello spazio, cambiano direzione, colore, font e alcune vagano in assenza di gravità, per poi dissolversi avvolgendosi intorno alle persone che disorientate le vedono trasformarsi in ‘stringhe’ non più leggibili. Anche le stringhe lentamente scompaiono sotto forma di fasci luminosi circondando il corpo degli spettatori come se fossero scie lasciate da comete colorate o come se ci trovassimo all’interno del disco di Newton.
Technical specifications: In order to realize this generative video installation is requested a dark environment as a cylindrical space, 2 digital video projectors 1000 lumen (or more) and 2 Mac-book or any Mac osx-lion based system, running Quartz Composer (free apple developer tool). Two or more speakers for sound and an internet connection.
