The Stream was a research project I had proposed at The University of Newcastle to be set and running by the year 2000 in Sydney. The Stream was to a 100-year continuous movie that would be available via a web page http://www.The-Stream.cc. There was to be one camera situated on top of the southwestern pylon of the Sydney Harbor Bridge. The then N.S.W government had given approval for placement of the camera.

The movie was to consist of two elements. One a real time feed of the Sydney city skyline. The other a time-lapse component. Every day at midday a frame was to be sampled from the real time feed and stored so that a time-lapse movie of the Sydney Skyline would be produced. The viewer had the choice to play the frames from the web page as a continuous movie.

Software to realize the project did not exist at that time and so the Software Engineering Department at the University of Newcastle was approached to collaborate on a cross disciplinary project. Two teams of third year students worked on the development of the page and software for two years. The software went through two stages of development resulting in a page design incorporating the software Stream 2.0. The whole system was to be revised every five years.

The project despite having great deal of interest shown was unable to find a host server and funding to be finalized.
