Sculptural installation:

This installation is an offshoot from a project developed over a number of years using the symbol of the heart, explored through multiple materials, for an investigation of the human condition.

The two sculptures here, each in the shape of a heart and each 25 to 30 feet tall, would be exhibited in a single large space allowing the two objects to interact with each other, creating an interactive experience for the audience.

In binary opposition to each other, one would be made from structured metal embedded with industrial scale heating coils, that would enable the heart to be heated to temperatures that would cause its mass to glow red hot –much like the heating ring on a cooker.

The opposite heart would have its mass generated from fridge-like components shaped to ensure that the ice mass generated from the freezing process would maintain the form of a heart.

The interactivity generated between these two opposing objects -that would be situated at opposite ends of a large darkened exhibition space, lit only by the glow of the heated heart- would consist of the experience of the varying temperature of the atmosphere existing between them, and more importantly, the effect of the heated heart on the frozen condition of the ice heart. Its action would maintain a partial melting of the ice piece producing a pool of water at its base and the audio experience of constant dripping. The freezing components within the ice sculpture would continue to maintain the sculptures mass.

The intention is to create an environment for individuals to reflect on the power of human emotions and the extremes of human passion.
